Master Patient Index (MPI) helps radiologists quickly identify and reconcile patient records across different PACS environments. MPI presents candidate patients within InteleViewer, displaying a likelihood percentage that the selected patient matches prior studies. This allows radiologists to verify associations manually, ensuring accuracy while maintaining data integrity. To help our clients streamline patient data consistency and improve workflow efficiency, we’re introducing Master Patient Index (MPI) as a new solution within ProtonPACS.
How It Works
- Patient Record Matching via HL7 & DICOM Indexing – Our MPI solution identifies and reconciles studies based on HL7 messaging, ensuring accurate patient data linkage when orders are present.
- Enhanced Prior Study Access – When opening a study, radiologists can view potential candidate patients in the Patient Record Tab (PRT), with a match probability percentage displayed next to each.
- On-Demand Record Linking – Radiologists can manually confirm a match by selecting the “Same Patient” checkbox, ensuring associated prior studies are immediately available for side-by-side comparison.
Is MPI Right for Your Organization?
MPI is most beneficial for organizations receiving studies from multiple PACS environments, external imaging centers, or imported reports where MRNs may not consistently align. If your facility primarily receives studies with consistent MRNs, MPI may not be necessary.
